Ministry Activities, 2016-2017

The NPC Moldova Team welcomed visitors Mihai Malancea and David Wallace and Phyllis Wolfe to NPC on March 20, 2018. Mihai is the UDG’s Academic Dean of UDG and was on sabbatical from mid-2017 to mid-2018. He and his wife Lidia were visiting the DC area and National Presbyterian before traveling to Pennsylvania to meeting with Keys representatives. David Wallace is NPC’s liaison to UDG.

Mihai shared with the group a series of interesting stories about UDG outreach in Central Asia and how the school reaches out to and nurtures students from this area. The conversation turned to developing support for the UDG MSW program in future years. Participants also discussed how to raise sufficient funds for a conference in 2019 highlighting UDG’s social work training program. The group laid out strategy for both areas.

When Valeriu Ghiletchi and Ion Miron (left photo, second and third from left) were in Washington in May 2017 for the Billy Graham Association conference for the Persecuted Church, members of the support group met with them to discuss ministry strategy in Moldova.

Members of the support group enjoy a dinner with Valeriu during his visit to the National Prayer Breakfast in February 2017. Dinner guests discussed UDG, the church in Moldova, and Valeriu’s work in the Parliament. (Valeriu is fourth from the left in the picture at left and third from the left in the picture at right.)

On January 29, 2017 friends of UDG met with Serghei Namesnic (far right in photo), the president of the school who was on sabbatical for the 2016-17 academic year. Serghei was visiting with NPC friend Serghei Potorac on his way to Keys Ministries in Liverpool, PA. While at Keys, Serghei was planning to work on writing projects and meet with supporters. Serghei provided to NPC friends some useful updates on programs occurring at the school and on fundraising in the US for Moldovan programs.

In November 2016, members of the Moldova support team traveled to Chisinau to discuss NPC’s support of UDG, the Shaw Grant, and the Marriage Ministry. Team members met with UDG leaders, had a tour of the new intercultural center, and attended a meeting of the regional leaders of the marriage ministry. Two of the team members traveled to a Marriage Course seminar held in Tiraspol in the Transdnester region. The NPC team also had the opportunity to attend a family conference at the Baptist Church in Ceadir Lunga, in the Gagauzia region.
NPC team members meet with UDG Academic Dean and Acting Rector Mihai Malancea (second from right). Malancea was the team’s main contact at UDG.

In July 2016, NPC awarded a grant from its “Peace and Reconciliation” account to UDG for a day camp project in Tajikistan, one of the countries where UDG has a satellite school. The grand was used for class materials and food for this outreach project in a village. Because of the sensitivity of the work there please consult a committee member for more details.
